THE MOTUEKA FRUIT SHOW.

VisxTORS to the district who attended the. Horticultural Society's annual exhibition were afforded a striking object lesson of the progress the fruitgrowing industry has made, and of the congenial conditions for it which exist in this as porhaps in no other part of the Dominion. Not only were the fruit exhibits numerous and representative of a wide area, but' the quality all round is'spoken of as a. revelation to those who were not familiar with the orchards in which they were produced. A fact to be borne in mind is that the competition in apples and pears was not confined to orohardists in the older-establusbed fruit-growing localities,, but that the new orchard land lying between Nelson and Motueka, of which a largo area has been brought -under cultivation in the last few years, was represented for Ihe first time on the show stands, and the fruit shown by these new entrants was a very meritorious feature of the display.
