Mr Charles H. Hewett, manager of Messrs . Biddiforcl's "Tablelands" station, Martinborou^h. is joining the reinforcements tit Trcntham. 'Wie potential heir to Lord Robert's title and honours is the infant son off Lady Echvina Levvin, the younger daughter of the groat Field-Marshal. Jir M Tsuchiya, a Japanese journalist, editor of the "Osaka Morning Sun," is at present in New Zealand. Gunner Roy Watson, who went with the New Zealanders to Samoa, is now on a visit to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Watson, of Washington Valley. He looks well after his seven months' sojourn in the Islands. Mr James Wilson, who died at. St. Clair, Dun<?din, on Saturday, aged 80 years, is said to have been the first man to open a photographer's shop in Dunedin, also the first to run a cab service there. Mrs M. E. Gordon will be a candidate at the forthcoming Hospital and Charitable Aid Board elections ut Dunedin. Lieut. A. S. Muir, sou of the late Mr Alan Muir, of Gisborne, - who was lately connected with the etaff of the "Poverty Bay Herald/ has gone into camp at Treiitham. A pleasant gathering took place at Rocklands, Clifton, when Mr McGregor, on behalf of the employees, presented Mr A. G. D. Willcocks with a silver tea set' on the occasion of his approaching marriage. The teapot bore the following inscription :—'Presented to A. G. D. Willcocks by his employees, Rocklands, on the occasion of his marriage, 1915." To-day Mrs. Richardson, of Van pieman street, celebrates her 95th birthday. One of the earliest of Nelson's settlers, Mrs Richardson has seen every development of the city and district. Despite her great age she is wonderfully well and continues to take the keenest interest in all that transpires. We join with her many friends and relatives m wishing Mrs. Richardson "Many happy returns." Mr J H Ho well, of Antonios, has written to the "Inangahua Times" that his patent for submarines has been accepted b y the British Admiralty. The details of the patent cannot be published at present. Mr. Howell is to be conKratulated on his improvement, which will largely extend the sphere of the submarine. ' The inventor is a brother of Mrs F Oleman, of Waimea West.

News ha* been received in Sydney of the death of Mr. George Morelle, a former woolbuyer, of Sycmey. Mr Morelle was one of tho first to leave Sydney when war broke out, and served tor four months with tho French troops. He was only 25 years of age, and was wounded by shrapnel at- Perl; k>s on the eve of his promotion to anb-liouten-ant He subsequently died from tetanus at the Clermont Ferrant Hospital.

Mr Ch.as. G. D. Roberts, who is well known as a writer of tales of wild nature, has gone to front- as first lieutenant in the King's (Liverpool) Regiment. He was onoe a private in the"Legion of Frontiersmen.
