An account of the Dardanelles bomoardment from Reuters Tenedos correspondent states that a crowd watched the operations on the 18th from the summit of Mount Elias. The warships steamed from their anchocage near the island and entered the straits in single file. They then spread out in a semi-circle.

The first notable hit was. made by the Queen Elizabeth after an hour's bombardment. A great balloon of smoke leapt hundreds of feet in the air from the magazine at Chanak.
Within the next twelve minutes four shells were dropped in the ruins., but the Turkish batteries continued t<> reply. Their firing was erratic, though they made feood shcts.
Shortly after noon a waterplane left the Arkroyal and flew to both shores of the straits. The Turks vainly shelled it.
Two more heavy explosions at Chanak followed.
The ships meanwhile steamed constantly up and down a two-mile stretch.
Then two approached the Narrows, and the Turks opened a furious bombardment. Several shells took effect on both ships.
A shell from the Queen Elizit;Qth at 3 o'clock caused a terrific espio&ioi at Kilid Bahr, followed by a gitai+ic spurt of flame and a cloud of sm^k-?.
Two batteries, apparently movable, suddenly opened fire near Keohez Bernu, but the Queen Elizabeth soon silenced them.
At nightfall Chanak was in flames The warships were still in the straits
