THE FASTEST DESTROYERS.
The British vessels, Tartar and Swift were last year regarded as the speediest in the world. Mr Archibald Hurd says that the latter is the fastest, and points to her having attained a speed of 39 knots in service, but the Tartar is said to have registered just over 40 knots. The "Navy League Annual" for 1914, in its lists of fastest* warships of the world, gives the following under "Destroyers":— Name - Speed. Tartar—British- 40.2 , Swift—British 38.3 Novik —Russian 37.0 Amazon —British 36.8 La Plata —Argentine 36.8 .'; Mauvenet—Turkish 36.3 ■ V. 194—German 36.0 i S. 22—German 35.91 Casque —French 35.6 Lurcher—British 35.34 Boucher —French 35.34 Mohawk—British 3.5.29 Crusador—British 35.21 It has to be remembered, of course, that since the war broke out quite a number of new destroyers have undergone their trials in different countries, the speed of which, has, naturally, not t been divulged.
