DEATH OF A SETTLER.

(From "Hie Colonist," March 4.) News has been received that Daniel George Gilbertson, between 60 and 60 years of age, was found dead at Sandy Bay on Monday. The deceased was well known at Port Nelson, and for many years was engaged in tha coastal service. Of late years he had been engaged in farming pursuits. r An inquest on the body of Daniel George Grilbertson, settler, of Sandy Bay, who was found lying on the beach on Tuesday afternoon, was held by the Coroner (Mr J. S. Evans) on Wednesday, when a verdict of death from heart failur© was returned. The evidence showed that the deceased's step-daugh-ter went out on Monday, leaving him and her mother (who is suffering from mental trouble) at home, and when she returned neither of them was about. She thought they had gone to Motueka, and went to a neighbour's place. Cn returning next day she found that her mother had returned, but the latter could not give an account of where she and her husband had been. Search was then made, and the body of the deceased was found lying on the beach about half a mile away from the house. There were no marks of violence on the body.
