REGATTA AT RIWAKA.
The Tasman Bay Motor Boat and Sailing Club ran off an 18ft. sailing race in Riwaka harbour on Saturday. There were three starters—Dolly Varden (Hugh Askew), Whiskey (Brewerton), and Zita (Franklin). Dolly Varden is a new type of boat for these parts. She was built by Mr. Hugh Askew himself, and is of the American style of racer. There was, however, not sufficient wind for her on Saturday, and she did not finish the race. Zita has certainly improved since the alterations have been made to her, and at present easily holds her own with any boat of the same class that is about. During the. sailing race a trial^ race | was run by the launches Zoalandia (C. Rowling) and Gleaner (Calder). resultinn; jn a win for Zealandia. Details are as follows: — I.Bft. Sailing Race, course 4% miles: Zita (seratcli) 1, time Ihr 12min 30sc-p : Whiskey (lmin 30sec) 2, time Ihr 16 mm 30sec; Dolly Varden (smin) did not finish. \ Launch Race: Zenlandia (Bmin) 1. time 39min 30sec; Gleaner (scratch) 2, time 32min.
