ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.
A drowning fatality occurred on the Kaiti beach, Gisborne, some time between 7 and 8 o'clock on Saturday night,■■.which resulted in the death of James Hannigan. a married man, aged about 45. Hannigan was employed by Messrs. Langlunds and Stannard, contractors for the breakwater extension contract. It is presumed that the deceased got into difficulties at high tide, and that both he and his horse were drowned. The deceased leaves a widow, who resides at Brougham street, Nelson. Ho was foreman at Tonga Bay when the stoi.e was being quarried for the Nelson harbour works, and has been in the employ of Mr Langlands for a long time. A man named Hugh McGlachen was knocked down by a motor at Auckland, and received injuries to his head. The driver diJi not pull up, but a policeman on point duty at Wellesley street realised what was happening, and lie managed to bring the car to a .standstill. "The, driver of the car was arrested.
A member of the Territorials, on guard at the wireless station, named Vincent Beoroft, was taken to the Mangojiui Hospital suffering from typhoid fever, and died there. He was buried at the Mangonui cemetery. Tho deceased belonged to Port Albert, where his parents reside. They were sent for, and Mr. Becrqft reached Mangonui in time to see his son before he passed away.
