WAKEFIELD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Death has claimed another victim in the person of Mr. Thomas Eden, who, after a long and painful illness, died at the age of 60 last Thursday morning. He was buried in the Spring Grove cemetery, and the service was conducted by the Roy.' A. J. Can", of Richmond. The family Have numerous friends and acquaintances who deeply •sympathy with them in their hour of sorrow. Mr. Eden was a very old resident, a great cricketer, and a good friend and neighbour. The Rev. J. 11. Dart is away on a ministerial visit to Queen Charlotte Sound, and returns in a few days. His services were taken on Sunday at "Wakefield and Foxhill by Mr. E. Boyes, of Nelson. Welcome rain fell on Sunday after dinner. Two sharp ishocks of earthquake occurred on Sunday night at quarter to 8. The direction appeared to be about north and south. A tennis match between the Belgrove and Wak'ofield Clubs was played on the Riverside courts on Saturday, Wakefield' winning. The closing of the Wakefield Technical School will take place on Wednesday afternoon, and wili be marked by' holding a tea. The- director, Mr. Cockburn, and members of the Nelson Education Board will be present, when they hope to meet a number of' parents and residents from Belgrove to Brightwater. Mr. Cockburn intends to explain matters in connection with the Nelson Technical College.
