Wellington, Oct. 8. The Hi"-h Commissioner, cables under date London, October 6th:—The wool sales have commenced with great competition for all grades of medium and -coarse crossbreds. but with less domana for all grades of fine crossbrods and Merinos. English manufacturers arc the principal buyers. Manufacturers are busy with Government orders for blankets and khaki cloth There are 35 500 bales of New Zealand wood catalogued. Medium and coarse crossWs, all grades, ljd per lb higher; fine crossbred, all grades, unchanged; Merinos Id per lb lower than closing rates at last sale. • A Government proclamation has been issued prohibiting the export ot wool to the- Continent, excepting Russia, France, Belgium, Spain, and Portugal.

Messrs Bisley Bros, and Co. report having reer-eived the following cablo from their London agents (MessrsJas Morrison and Co. , under date October 7t£ _!-Fino wools unchanged, medrumcoarse 12* per cent., slices scoured 20 per cent, advance."
