THE PRUSSIAN GUARDS' REVERSE.
TRAPPED IN A SMAWP.

The Prussian Guards who met with disaster at St. Goud on September 9th took up the position overnight, when ■the ground was dry and solid. Heavy' rains caused it to become a swamp, and the guns' caissons were embedded. Men and horses sank in the mud, and the French guns mowed them down, killing hundreds.
