WATERED MILK.

Wellington, Oct. 7. A plea of not guilty was entered by John Gordon, dairyman, of Taita. who appeared before Mr Cooper, S.M., at the Lower Hutt Magistrate's Court today, to answer a charge, of selling milk which was below the standard required by the Food and Drugs Act. Ernest Si'iddleton, an inspector, deposed to purchasing a sample of milk (produced) from Gordon, at the Hutt railway station on August 20th. Questioned by Mr Jackson, who appeared for the "defendant, witne&s said that the defendant did not wait for his sample, and that he instructed Inspector Cowdray to take the sample to Gordon's house. This had teen done. Corroborative evidence was given by Inspector J. H. Cowdray. x In answer to His Worship, Mr Ostler, who appeared for the prosecxition, stated that the analysis of the'-milk showed that it contained 9.1 per cent, of water artificially added. A fine of £20 was imposed.
