(Special to "The Colonist."}

Wellington, Oefc. 7

The Hon. R. MeKenzie, in a question to the Minister of Education in the House of Representatives, raised an interesting point. He asked, Whether it is a fact that the manager of the Stoke Industrial School, on instructions from the Department, deducted £73 from a legacy of £'100 belonging to M. Brislane, 'who, -with his hrnt.hrr, W. Brislane was for a timo maintained in the Stoke Orphanage,. from the Brunner Accident Relief Fund, at the rate of 4s a week each? The Hon. James Allen, Minister or Education, replied: M. Bristano was an inmate of the school when the legacy referred to came to hand. The legacy was taken over by the- Public Trustee in the course of law, and £73 of the amount applied, also in the course of law, to liquidate the cost of the boy 5 maintenance in the school. W. Brislane. was not an initiate of-the school at the time, and the same course could not be followed in his case. In commenting on this reply. Mr McKenzie said that it was only ]ust to Brislane to refund the money, and this should ho done at once, as he was •a member of the Expeditionary Force.
