A SERIOUS DEADLOCK.

The subject was raised again by Mr. Buddo when the House resumed after the dinneradjournment. .The member for Kaiapoi explained that he had received an'urgent telegram from Mr. Gardiner, of Oust, Canterbury, who is one of the leading small millers of the Dominion. The telegram stated that the situation was serious, as bakers were running short of flour. What he desired to know, however, was whether millers were compelled by law to sell at the statutory prices fixed by proclamation.

The Prime Minister said, in reply: "I will consult the Crown law officers on they point. My own opinion is that they are not obliged to sell, but that if they do sjell they cannot charge a higher price than that fixed by proclamation."
