GERMANS SHORT OF PETROL.

MOTOR LORRIES DESTROYED

DEMORALISATION EVIDENT.

(Received Oct. », 11.50 p.m.)

Paris, Oct. 5

Where the Germans retired along the Rheima line they abandoned many motor lorries, apparently owing to a •shortage of petrol. The framework of twelve lorries was found burned. They had apparently been destroyed during the hurried retreat.

The German demoralisation has now become obvious and is confessed. Prisoners state that the trenches were too deep, and the removal of the dead was impracticable. The result was horribly insanitary conditions.
