The amusing pretence of some of oui newest Legislative Councillors that they secured "their dignity without undignified bargaining is hard to sustain. However, -the effort helps to brighten up the Parliamentary atmosphere, because the old hands easily discern the anxiety of the latest appointees to do exactly what they are told to <J6. They tell a story of a new Councillor^ who was seen wandering in a puzzled way through the labyrinth of corridors in Parliament Buildings. "What are you looking for?" asked a friendly representative of the people. "The Government Whip's room," innocently confessed the councillor, and he was duly escorted to that sanctuary of party whence proceed all instructions for the maintenance of party discipline. It is said that the Government's former Chief Whip,,the Hon. C. A. C. Hardy, is finding effective scope for his old occupation in the Council. -■
