STOKE.

The monthly meeting of the Stoke Road Board was held on Saturday. Present: Messrs. J. E. Bartlett (chairman), J. Best, T. B. Clrisnall, H. T. Palmer, A. P. Allport. and D. Giblin.

" The overseer reported that the gravel taken from Tahuna had been replaced by soil,, also that the bad holes in Green street had been filled up, and the lower part formed and graded to a width of 22 feet. Four chains of road leading to the Stoke canning works had been formed, graded, and gravelled. The road grader had been at work for five days since 25th June. Railway street 'had been done^ and , Quarantine road from" tb.o Rocks road to , the tidal creek, the parings being used for filling „up the middle of the road by TrasVs. Half the back road at Stoivo had been done, also Giblin's road from Orphanage road to Sax,ton's road, and part of Saxton's road. Some of the Avillows had been exit by the manager of the Stoke Industrial School, but not enough. A deputation fiom the Board had met Mr. Marsden witji reference to water flowing on his land. The splash on Kelling's road required attention, and the overseer recommended that a culvert be put in. H. Sutton's road ne&r Malcolm's required gravelling. Various minor works carried out in the different districts were detailed.

The report was adopted. Residents off Bishopdale wrote in reference to state of O'Brien's road.— Referred to overseer.

Mr. T. M. Giblin wrote resigning his position as carter for the Board.—Received with regret. Mr. John Rutherford asked permit* sion to remove several loads of soil from Poor Man's-Valley.—granted, subject to direction of overseer.

Mr. J. W. Marsden complained of water flowing on to his property.—lt was resolved to put in drain across* Englebrecht's road. .

. Mr. Englebrecht, -secretary of tho Stoke Progressive Association, asked the Board to supply gates and posts for the cemetery.

It was resolved to inform the writei that as the Board had riot yet assumed control of the cemetery, money could not legally be voted for^the purpose.

Messrs. Pitt and Moore wrote re by-laws.—Received. A petition from Stoke residents asking that a portion of Quarantine road bo widened was read.—-It was resolved to inform the writers that the work is being proceeded with as opportunity offers

Accounts amounting to. £83 12s were passed for payment. '
