Mr Stanley Portal Hyatt was born in 1877, and was educated at Dulwieh College. As a young man ..he worked on a New South Wales sheep station, afterward© going to ■ Matabelciand at the time of the rinderpest. .At the age of 22 he 5 was the largest native trader in Eastern Mashonaland. He explored the central part of Mozambique for the Portuguese, returning to find his business ruined by the new cattle disease. He drifted about the East for some years, and fought through the campaign in the Philippines. He returned to England in 1905, and after a hard struggle made a success with his-first novel, "Marcus Hay." Since then he had written "many books dealing with his wanderings.
