LIVERPOOL STATE COLLIERY.

THE AWARD.

[United Press Association.]

Greyfnouth, June 6. The Arbitration Court's award in the Liverpool State colliery ca3e is to hand. The award is for 12 months only. The hewing rates are fixed, with some slight increases, in accordance with the proposals of the employers. As the mine is not yet properly developed it was impossible^ for the Court to arrive at a satisfactory conclusion as to whether the rates fixed would enable the miners to earn average wages equal to those of other mines in the district. The Court therefore provided a minimum wage of 10s 6d per shift. The Court was not able to deal with the much debated question of extra payment in the majority of tho mines in Westland, and there was no good reason why the State mine should be placed at a disadvantage in this respect. The award provides that when miners are required to work three shifts in any part of the mine 2d per ton additional tonnage rate shall be paid. Miners working in wet places are to work^eix hour shifts, bank to bank. If from water or other difficulty in such places they cannot earn the wages they are to be mid 12s per shift. The award is a lengthy one, and occupies over four columns in the local Press.
