It appears certain that in the near future the friendly societies (of England) will have to diminish the benefits granted or to increase insurance tax upon their members. Either course will add to the already overwhelming unpopularity of the "hated Act" and place Mr Lloyd George in a very difficult position.—•London "Mail."
Mr S. Ramanujam, a mathematical prodigy aged 20, who is said to have solved the intricate problems which have baffled some of the best English mathematicians, was awarded by the University of Madras a research •scholarship to enable him to go.to Cambridge.
