Tli© High Commissioner's market report, dated London, May 30th, is as follows (quotations, unless otherwise specified, arc average market prices on spot):— - Mutton: The market is steady, .and prices are well maintained. There has been more inclination to purchase mutton during the past week. ■ Canterbury 4 5-8 d per lb for light weight. There is a- better demand for heavy weight at 3 7-Scl per lb; North Island 4 3-1 od for light weight Lamb: The. market is very firm. There is a better demand for heavy weight on account of high prices of English mutton. Canterbury twos 6 3-8 d , heavy weights 6 l-8d ; other than Canterbury <H-d per lb lor lieht weight. >r^ "Beef: The. market is quiet, with no alteration in' prices. New Zealand binds 4 l-Bd, fores 3UI; chilled beef, in moderate supply, hinds ojd, fores 3 7-Sd. , „ Butter: The market is steady. Danish, quiet, 113s to 115s per civt, exceptionally choice 116s; New Zealand, firmer," 107s to 108s, exceptionally choice, 110s ; Australian, 100s to 104s ; Siberian, in moderate supply, 98s tc 102s; Insh creamery, slow, 105s to 108*. p . L . Cheese: The market is firm, with an upward tendency in prices. Canadian, the stock is almost exhausted. 68s to 70s per cwt; New Zealand, the market is firmer with a fair demand, while 59s Gd to 60s 6d, coloured 63s to 645; Australian, white 57s to 595, coloured 60s to 63s ;' English cheddar, new make, 63s to 68s ; English cheddar. loaf, new make, 68s to 725; Cheshire, new make, 60s to 655. . Hemp: The market is rather unsettled on account of the Mexican position. New Zealand good-fair per ton £^6 10s, fair £23 10s; June to August shipments, good-fair £26 15s, lair £23 15s. Prices nominal. Manila: Fair current £2-j 10s, June to' August shipments £26.155. Prices nominal. The output from Manila for the wook was 29,000 bales. Hons: The market is steady and holders are firm. There is no change in prices. , , . . Yv'he-u-: The market is steady, but the demand is only moderate. Oats: The market is firmer and the demand is becoming better. block is being reduced. Beans: The market has advanced. Peas: The market is firm. Cocksfoot: The market is quiet.
