Another old We&t Coast pioneer has died at Kumara in the person of Mr Josepji Pfaffv. who was born in Germany, in 1833. He came out to NewZealand in .the Victoria in 18-54, and took part m the gold rushes on the Coast. He resided in various parts of the We«fc Coast. Ixit lived at Kumara after 1876.

Mr John ■Matheson, one of the leading pastoralists of the Mackonzi©.Country, died recently at his residence, Tim am. He was the owner of Simon' & Pass Station, where he resided for many years. He was a native of Argyllshire.

Mus. Chas. N. Trainor, of Auckland, who is a daugher of Mr. J. W. Treacher, of this city, is at present on. a visit to Nelson.

A Gisborne Press Association telegram states that the Premier, the Right Hon. W. P. Massey, went up the railway line as far as Matawai yesterday and received numerous deputations. He returned to Gisborne in theevening and -left by the Monowai for Napier. He will go straight through to Wellington to-day.

The Dominion meteorologist, the Rev. D. C. Bates, will leave shortly on a visit to Australia on important business con« nected with the working of the meteorological office, .states a Wellington Press Association telegram.
