REV. C. MEYER.

(From "The Colonist," Feb. 19.)

The Rev. C. Meyer, who was pastor at the Lutheran Church of St. John at Ranzau during the later 'sixties, throughout the seventies, arid in the earlier eighties, died at Redondo Beach, California, on the 28th December last in his 84th year.. His last illness was of two weeks' duration; he was unconscious during the last four days, prior to which he suffered considerable pain, borne with great fortitude and quiet resignation. There are, we feel sure, many Lutherans in these parts who have kindly recollections of the' deceased, pastor, coupled with grateful remembrance of the valued labours which he wrought in their midst in days lang syne. Such of his old parishioners will doubtless be interested to learn that an impressive funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Mr Theiss, of Los Angeles, who preached an eloquent sermon from the text chosen by the deceased himself, viz., "Lobe den Herrn meine Seele, etc." (Psalm 103, v. 1-4). It is somewhat of a coincidence that Pastor Meyer's death should occur in the same year that witnessed the destruction by fire of his old church at Ranzau.
