Tauranga, March 17

The attempts to rescue the man on Rabbit Island to-day were hopeless, and it was decided to abandon further attempts till the weather moderates, of which there is no sign. A tremendous sea is running outside the entrance. The man has now been on the island for thirty hours, without food. He still remains unidentified.
