EX-CONVICT AND BARONESS.

UNUSUAL LAWSUIT IN LONDON

BLACKMAILING SCHEME EXPOSED.

London, March 4

Hugh Dalrymplo, an ex-convict, proceeded against Baroness yon Goetz, a wealthy philanthropist and organiser of a farm for disehai-ged prisoners. Dalrymplo alleged that he lent the Baroness money. He produced scores of the Baroness's letters containing state-, ments of a sensational nature. In cross-examination counsel proved that Dalrymple was convicted of frauds on women in 1896.. In order to explain discrepancies in the letters, Dalrymple alleged that his twin brother was responsible. Dalrymple's counsel threw up his brief. A verdict was returned for defendant. The judge impounded a hundred letters, which were obvious forgeries. Evidence was given that the Baroness had £40,000 in the bank nt tho time of the blackmailing.
