The story is a very pathetic one, and is enacted as only that popular film company can with its wild animals, etc. To-night another entire change will be submit- ' ted, headed by a remarkable dramatic' masterpiece entitled "Ashes." The •stoi-y deals with an old man, alone in i his mansion, who decides to give a din- ' ncr to the memories of the girls he loved and lost. He has a table decked with garlands, and at each place he puts a bouquet of flowers most representative of the girl who would occupy that place if she herself were there, instead of his memory of her. As he rises to toast these^ ladies of the past, the stem of the wineglass -snaps, and he falls across the table,'dead. An overturned candle sets fire to the draperies, and before many minutes each flower is reduced to a cold little heap of ashes. Other films are: "Upper Egypt," one of Pathe's- renowned ■scenics of the deepest possible interest; a fine A.B. feature drama, "A Gambler's Honour" ; "Two's Company, Three's a Crowd," by the ever-popular Vitagraph. Company, extremely humorous ;. "The Greater Gift, 5? A.K. drama; "Hide and Seek," and~"Rose at 16, Cactus at 45," two items of the comic class; "Warwick Chronicle," and "New Zealand Animated News."
