ON THE HEIGHTS.

WRECKED .SAILORS' PROVISION DEPOT.

(SpecUl to "The Colonist.")

Wellington, Feb. 11

During a cruise around the North Auckland coast on the lighthouse steamer Hinemoa, the Hon. EL D. Bell, Minister of Internal Affairs) landed at Big King Island^ where there is a provision depot for castaways. He has come back wondering how anyone but a robust sailor in good fettle, and possessing catlike agility, coiild even got to the provisions in case of need, for they were stored on a cliff with an approach which the Minister described to your correspondent as being like the side of a hoitse. He intends suggesting that a decent track be made to the depot, otherwise there is a danger of exhausted people coming ashore only to find the much-needed food.out of their reach. -.- ' . ■***
