MANUFACTURE OF FARM IMPLEMENTS.

URGED ON THE- NEW SOUTH '■ \

WALES GOVERNMENT.

Sydney, Feb. 10. A deputation of country Parliamentarians waited on Mr. Ashford, Minister for Agriculture, to urge the Goveisiment to consider the advisability of tke Government, ombarking. on the manufacture of agricultural implements.

" "Mr. Bunn said the farmers had been imposed on" for years hj combines and rings of implement . manufacturers. The Government-should consider the question of supplying first-hand assistance in the way of "advances. Railway facilities had been given, but instead of borrowing from the Crown and handing over the money to private firms,, it was better to obtain the machinery direct from the Government. An additional manufacture would only necessitate a slight enlargement of the present premises. The Government might, also enter into competition with India in the manufacture of wheat bags, in view ©f the jute monopoly.

■; Mr. Ashford replied that already a, scheme was in his mind, and he would place it before his colleagues the session after next. While recognising the necessity of,. Government intervention in regard to the jute monopoly, the Government was pledged in the matter of the bulk handling of wheat. It would, however, see .that the farmers were protected.
