LIBERAL LAND CAMPAIGN.

SPEECH BY THE CHANCELLOR,

THE UNNECESSARY LANDLORD,

(Received Dec, 24, 0.5 a.m.)

London, Dee. 23.

!. Mr Lloyd George, speaking at Pwllheli, repudiated the idea that the land reform programme was merely a votecatching device. For every, 20s paid by the fanner in wages he paid over 25.s as rent. He wanted fair.play for till, but the landlord was no more essential to •■agriculture than the chain was to a watch, and the Government's plan was *to place the parasitic interest last. The Tory1 alternative was to use the taxpayers' money for the landlords to build cottages, and keep the tenants under their thumbs.

Referring to immigration-, Mr LloydGeorgo said the life-blood of the country districts was being gradually drtuned and poured into the veins of the new lands overseas, . where labourers were better treated.
