ANNUAL STATUTORY MEETING

CR. EVERETT 1 RE-ELECTED

CHAIRMAN.

The annual statutory meeting of tho Waimea County Council for the purpose of electing a chairman for the ensuing year was held yesterday. There were present Crs£ Everett, Best, Hewetson, Corder, and Hoult. An apology for absence was received from Cr. Macmahon..

The clerk (Mr. S. Blomfield) took tlie chair 3 and called for nominations. Cr. Best said he had very much pleasure in proposing Cr. Everett for reelection. Cr. Everett had made a good chairman/ and h© not think the Council could do better than re-elect him to the position.

Cr. Hewetson seconded tho motion. He said he did not think one year in office was long enough for & chairman to get into the run of things. He was. well satisfied with tho way Cr. Everett had conducted the business of. the Council during the past year. Cr! Corder said he supported the motion with pleasure. In his opinion Cr. Everett had done remarkably well during his term of office. He spoke of the assiduous- manner in which piv Everett had attended to Ms duties, and said that anything he Undertook he always carried out.

Or. Hoult, "as one of the strongest oppositionists throughout the piece," said that he was more satisfied to support Cr. Everett now than-'he. was twelve months ago. Or.
