RIFLE SHOOTING.

NELSON DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. On Saturday nnd Wednesday last the club compett-d for the vice-presi-dent's cup in conjunction with Messrs. .JJrown Bros', trophy. Thel shooting was exceptionally good considering these were the first shoots of the season. Rifleman T. Cartor made the fwssiblo at 300 yards, finishing up with the ■excellent score-of 68 off the rifle, thus securing tlk> most points for tho cup, and tho leg-in for the ■trophy. Rifleman W. A. Kenning nlso made the possible at 500 yards". The following riflemen secured GO points and over:—
