ANGLO-TURKISH AGREEMENT.
EXPLANATION BY SIR EDWARD
GREY
GERMANY NOT A PARTY.
London, May 30,
Sir Edward Grey, during tho Foreign Office voto debate in the House of Commons, said that, an agreement was entered into with Turkey whereby the Baghdad railway would not prot-ecd beyond Basra without Britain's consent. Germany was not n party to 'the agreement, but it was essential that Germany should be satisfied that nothing therein conflicted with her rights. The same remark regarding the British applied to Germany's Baghdad agreement with Turkey.
Mr Bonar Law, Leader of the Opposition, i>aid a tribute to Sir Edward Grey's success in connection with the Balkan question, and approved of the
Basra arrangement.
