MR GODFREY ISAACS IN THE BOX
A SEVERE CROSS-EXAMINATION
CONNECTION WITH UNSUCCESS-
FUL VENTURES

To-day's hearing of tho Chesterton libel case was occupied by the evidence of Mr Godfrey Isaacs, managing director of the Marconi Company, with regard to his connection with public companies which Mr Chesterton had described. „ Under cross-examination he admitted that tho connection was discreditable. He had not held shares in the Transvaal Limited Company, and retired from tho board shortly after the issue of the prospectus. Ho was on the board of another South African company, Geluk, Limited. He admitted his ponnoction with a'number of automobile and Welsh mining companies which were unsuccessful, but denied that ho made money by promoting thorn or manipulating the market.
Mr Godfrey Isaacs was sharply crossexamined regarding his earlier experiences in the city. He admitted having been associated with a 'number of company failures, including that of the 'Australasian Motor Car Company. He deniod that he could be described as a discredited syndicate adventurer.
