MOEUEKA. (From \Ow Otvn Correspondent.) The usual weekly mooting of the Motueka .Social a:nd Litorary Club was held on Monday evening, Mr C. Castles in the chair.' A debate took place on ■the question, "That corporal punish.rnent is justifiable." The affirmative side was taken by Messrs Thonipson. (leader), Griffin, Budden, .Rodger, -and IJLi. Manoy, and thei'-'negative^igido, hy I Messrs-J. A. Wallace (leader) ? Nich'ol- ¥ ! son, Pike, Jaques, . and the Rev Mr I Jennings. After an interesting discussion the affirmative; was carried on the casting vote of the chairman. On next Monday evening thero will be a compo- '■■ tition in making short speeches of six [minutes' duration. Subjects will he allotted and six minutes' preparation allowed each speaker.' Tho. Mayor presided, and there was a good attendanco of tho public, the.fair sex predominating. Addresses were delivered by his Lordship the Bishop of Nelson, and tho Revs J. D. McArthurand J. Vosper. A resolution wasu;arried: in support of the movement, and a local committee was set up tp? ; further the objects of tho Bible-in-Schools :League.-
