FARMERS' UNION CONFERENCE.

DELIBERATIONS AT MASTERTON

Masterton, May 28. The following remits were carried at tho Wellington provincial conference ot tlio Farmers' Union:— That ihe defence '.authorities be requested to ::lt.r tho. starting time for daylight parades from 10 a.m. to: 2.dU p.m. in dairying districts; that in country districts post effaces bo not closcd'for half a day m the *ee^as at present, and m lieu of the weekly half-holiday the officials in charge bo given an extra 14 days' holiday on full Say: that subsidies for inland mail contracts should be given for the quick despatch of mails,.-and that mails should in all case* be sent to their destination without delay and- ha re priority over passenger traffic; that i« a desirable in the interests of farmers and workers to establish, a labour ■ bureau in connection wtfh oacu central branch of tho union ; that, this conferenoo endorses the -action c,f the county councils in taxing motor cars,, and that tho money so raised be. spent m tho upkeep of the arterial roads, cars to be taxed by weight; that tin* ■conference strongly urges upon all farmers the nece&tity of supporting farmers co-opeo-ative 00-mpanies. The election of officers resulted as Allows: Mr. J. G. Wilson, president; Mr T Moss, vice-president,-Air. JN. Jiiirch. treasurer; tho oxecutivo as before, with the addition of Messrs. A. D McLeod (Martinborough), and M. Morrison (Greyto-wn) while the nameof Mr. T. Hod'gins (Pahiatua) was <*e~ °It was resolved that the next provincial conference be held at Wanganui. At the conclusion of the conference, owing to the reported arrangement of the shipping companies and the l<eaeration of Labour, a strong movement wa, s sot on foot to obtain general and concerted action among tamers tor tmo purpose of getting their own shipping, facilities for wool and other produce.
