Mr J. J. Franklyn, minister of the Church of Christ, Paddiiigtoii, Sydney, who has boon appointed organiser for the Dunedin No-license campaign, under the New Zealand Alliance, will terminate his ministry at Paddington at the end of June, and leave Sydney on July sth for his new sphore of work.
j Yesterday Mrs1?. R. Askew celebrated | her eighty-first birthday, and was the recipient of congratulations front a large number of friends, of whom a considerable numbor assembled at Mrs. Askew' s residence to convey their good wishes personally. Mrs. Askew came to Nelson as a girl at the° foundation of the settlement, and being' a keen observer and a woman of affairs has a groat fund of interesting reminiscences at her command. Notwithstanding her advanced years the lady is hale and hearty, and expressed the great pleasu;S>& she felt in welcoming and entertaining the company who mot in her honour. Among those present were tho Mayor (Mr. Win. Lock) and some of Mrs. ' Askow's contemporaries of the early 'fifties.
