Mrs Pankhurst was arrested when attempting to motor to a meeting at the London Pavilion. When she was removed to Holloway Gaol four motors containing twenty women followed, and attempted to rush through the prison gates, which the warders with difficulty closed.

An attempt was made to Wow up the Elginhaugh bridge at Ashbank, with gunpowder. Two explosions occurred, but the damage was not serious.
