Tli© Crown Prosecutor, in opening ■•the case, stated that a most remarkable development ihad, Thompson's index finger within tho very -recent past had been interfered with, and by some process of manipulation the ridges of the finger h.ad been altered. This ho regarded as an indication that accused desired to evade the .weight of evidence created by the simi-. larity ,of the- finger prints found in Trotter's house arid tho impression of Thompson's finger taken by tho police.
