IN A BUOYANT CONDITION.

~; The Horn W. Fraseiy acting-MinißtejS ■of Finance, stated that the revenue for the ten months ended , January 31et amounted to £9,021,936, compared wiihi £8,639,634 for the corresponding period of the previous financial year —an increase of -,£382,302. The expenditure, for the ten months of the current year to January 31st was £8,639,509, compared with £8,310,995 for the corresponding period of the previous year— an increase of £328,514. The net gaitt in revenue was. thus £55,788. The expenditure,, for the past tea months was necessarily high, because more interest has to be paid on loans* and the expenditure on defence had been greater. There were some other items involving increased expenditure. The increase in. expenditure in the aggregate amounted to £442,019, and th» decreases to £115;509. Generally speaking, said the Minister, the revenue ifl in an exceedingly satisfactory >and buoyant condition. The land and income receipts, assuming that th© payments are all made by the date fixed, wili be at least. 75 per cent above the estimate* Suggestions have been made in some quarters that- money has riot been ad* yahced by the; lendingdepartments, but in ten months, £1,629,125 has.been lent out from the Advances to Settlors, Advances to Workers, and Local Authorities branches.
