DEFENCE ACT PROSECUTIONS.

Claude Silcock, ] Charles R. Win, Donald George Win, Fred. J. Win, all of Dovedale, were charged with failing to render personal service. They weie defended by Mr A. T. Maginnity, ; and Captain Burn appeared for the Defence Departirient./ Sucock and R'i Win were Territorials, and the others Senior Cadets. Defendants pleaded' guilty. Claude Silcock and C. R. Win were members of the Dovedale Rifle Club, and stated they thought they were exempted. They -were -quite - willing to serve.

The Magistrate said he would not fail to have the law carried out, but considering the attitude the defendante took up he. would only convict them, and order them to pay 7s costs each. Victor Lee Egan, Dovedale, who was similarly charged, pleaded guilty, with the excuse that the doctor had not certified as to his being able to servo. ' This case was adjourned for inquiry. ;
