Nows has been recoived that Captain Scott and his Polar party perished in a blizzard, after, reaching tho South Pole, on January 18tK

I Mr. Douglas Freshfieldj who presided at a meeting of the Royal Geographical Society, in Lord. Curzoil's absence^ said they mot in tbe.-sb.adow of a great calamity. Captain Scott leached the Polo on January 18th, and found Amu|idson's records. .While-returning the party was caught by an overpowering blizzard on March 29th. Captain Scott, Lieutenant Bowers and Dr Wilson died on that date, -and Capt. Oates sometime earlier. Petty Officer Evans succumbed to an accident; i , .
The Society* Mr. Freshfield added, sympathised with: Mrs. Scott, and they could only say ''good-bye-' to the band of heroes whose names would shine as examples ■of the highest courage. Captain Scott would live in their memories as an ideal English: sailor. ■
