Mr. Bonar Law, 'speaking at a. H'uionist dinner, said the moment tho Unionists were entrusted with power "they would be able without food duties to give tho Dominions precisely what they had asked for in. tlws Imperial Conferences, namely, preference on the existing duties. If it was impossible to have a preferential system which would help in .consolidating ..the Empire with-, out food duties, then they would endeavour to carry the latter, but only after submitting the scheme to the pooplo and convincing them it would be to the advantage both of the Empire and the United Kingdom. . .. :
