A Sydney cable says that Messrs J. and N. Tait have arranged with Madamo Clara Butt, her husband, Mr Kennerly Rumford, and Mr John McCorniack, to visit Australia next year, and with Mr Harry Lander for a visit in 1914. , ■
■ Tho position of matron'of the Auckland Hospital has been filled by the appointment'of Miss Jessie M. Orr, matron of the Taunton and Somerset Hospital, Taunton, England, since 1907. Miss Orr will take up her new duties on November 15th.
Lieutenant D. A. Dron, from the unatached list, has been appointed 2nd lieutenant in the 12th Nelson Regiment. Sergt. J. Wilson has also been promoted to second lieutenant (on probation).
The following have been appointed King's Counsel, cays a Wellington telegram: Messrs. F. Earl and J. 11. Reed, of Auckland; J, W. Salmond (Solicitor-General), A. Gray and C. B. Morrison, of Wellington.
Mr G. T. Milne has been appointed Commonwealth Trade Commissioner (say,g a London cable). He is at present inquiring into British trade with Central America. H© proceeds to Australia early next year.
