A social gathering waa held at Happy Valley on Wednesday evening for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Inwood, who are leaving the district. Soniga etc*., were contributed by Miss Condell, Mesdames Jack Flower, D. Anderson, E. Westley, Packer, Atkinson, Messrs Joseph Flower, C. Frost and Packer. The school children also rendered several items. During the evening Mr. Joe Flower, on behalf of the residents, presented Mr. and Mrs. Inwood With a handsome silver cruet, and a silvermounted salad bowl, upon which their names had been engraved. Mr. Inwood suitably acknowledged the gifts, and thanked the residents for their kind thoughts, words, and actions. Supper was provided, and a very pleasant evening closed with cheers for Mr. and Mrs Inwood, and tho einging of "Auld Lang Syne." Much of the success of the gathering was due to Mesdam&B Brown. Packer and E. Westley.

The animal attacked an old man and a policeman who drew his baton and broke- it over the head of tho dog in defending himself. Tho Archbishop of Canterbury announced on July 3 in tho Upper House of th<> Convocation of Canterbury that ho had received.-an invitation from the> Primato and Bishops of tho Church of New Zealand to attend, their first (Church Congress, to bo held in Auckland in February, 1915, to mark tho centenary of the introduction of Christianity into the islands of New Zealand.
