Mr. Henry Scott McKellar, who entered the Customs Department at NewPly mo nth in 1852, and rose to the position of Secretary of Customs (trom which he retired in 1892), died in Wellington yesterday, aged 78.

Our Wellington correspondent wires that the Colonial Auxiliary forces long service medal has been awarded to Captain John .Lewis Ghktg, of the 10th (Nelson) Mounted Rifles.

A Wellington telegram states that Mr. Theodore Itigg who (as reported by a Wednesday cable from London) has been awarded an 1851 Exhibition scholarship in science (chemistry), of the value of £150 per year tenable for two years, is the son of Mr. John Rigg, of John Rigg and Co., Wellington. He leaves on August 16th to enter Cambridge University.

The following appointments in the Stamp and Land Transfer Department (telegraphs our Wellington correspondent) are announced: Mr. William Waring do Castro to be dep-uty-Commiesion-er of Stamps, assistant-Registrar of Companies, District Land Registrar, examiner of titles and Registrar of Deeds at Invercargill; Mr. "William Johnston to be deputy-Commissioner of Stamps, assistant Registrar of Companies, assistant Land Registrar and deputy-Registrar of Deeds at Nelson; Mr. John Andrew Eraser to be assistant 'Registrar of Companies, assistant Land Registrar, and deputy-Registrar of Deeds at Gisborne; Mr. Walter Hislop to bo assistant Land Registrar and deputy-Registrar of Deeds at Napier.
