SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.
NELSON V WAI-MAI
The ..first., spell was>fairly even, each side attacking strongly,-but good defence 'by tho" backs "successfully drove the forwards down field. Wai-Mai drew first blood shortly before half time. Stratjwn receiving the ball from a pass, reached the circle, and found the net from a good angle. The second spell ended in favour of Wai-Mai, although at the start Nelson forwards made .several hot attacks. They were sent back, but they came again, and a silly piece of play by WaiMai allowed Brodie to secure the ball, and cleverly beating the full-backs, he found the- net from a difficult angle. Each side were now going right out, but the muddy field spoilt good chances. Hurst got away,, and a score looked likely, but Hockey successfully blocked him. In the last ten minutes Wai-Mai kept up almost a continuous attack, but their'efforts to score were fruitless owing to the heavy ground and the defence of the Nelson backs. About fivt minutes before time Coles broke away, but was 'Stopped just on the edge of the circle. Play finished in Nelson's 25. On a dry ground this match would probably have been a splendid exhibition of hockey.
