LOSS OF THE TITANIC.

MISCARRIAGE OF A WARNING.

LORD MERSEY'S CONCLUSIONS

CREW'S BEHAVIOUR COMMENDED

(Received June 28, 9.25 p.m.) London, June 28

Speaking at the'^Titanic inquiry, the Pi*esident of the Court, Lord Mersey, remarked that the collision occurred in the "region mentioned in the Mesaba' s wireless warning, but apparently that message* did not reach the Titanic's bridge; otherwise the disaster would not .have occurred,' or else there had had been gross carelessness. Apparently Mr Phillips, the wireless operator, was unable to judge the importance of the message, or was too busy to attend to it. There was no evidence to show that Mr Ismay interfered with the navigation of the ship.

. Lord Mersey added that fie was satisfied no record passage was being made. The crew behaved extremely well.
