NOTES BY "ONLOOKER."

Tlioro will be no Rugby matches at the Park to-morrow afternoon, but in order to keep up to date with their numerous fixtures the Union have put on the programme of matches outlined

above

Last Saturday there was a very satisfactory attendance of spectators at the Park to witness the senior matches College v. Nelson and Waimea v. Rival. For various reasons the Nelson team went or> the field several' men short, but ultimately renclietl their full strnegth. They put in a good game against the Collerr-p. the forwards being mainly responsible for +Hs. The Nelson bark? were eomnnratively speaking weak, and

they failed to show any combination. Snundors. rtt fnll-bnck. did a lot of useful lir" VirWno;, but his cnlfarinowas u-wli. Funter failed to show up as well as usval. principally because he failed to get the opportunities owing to the we?lrnoss of the other hacks. Rtrntton, at half, was new to the position, and replaced Gilbert, who went out to Wing three quarter. Tho latter did not appear to advantage as a winger, although his try was a good

piece of work. C. Smith is in his right place on the wing, and he played a fine game, being always on the ball. Tho forwards all grafted hard, Taylor and Shannon being perhaps the most prominent. Everett, on the College side, played

his usual safo game at full-back. Bosselman was in better form than on the previous Saturday against Waimea, and he put in a lot of very fine work, in which he was well supported by Prussing and Hawk.

Grace, on the wing, was weak, and would have been better in the forwards. Fairhall did very well on the other wing, and scored a very fine try. Berthelsen played the best forward game in the match, in fact -at the present time he is one of tho best forward'

in Nelson

The Rival v. Waimea match was very one-sided, the former toam being composed largely of juniors who had previously taken part in a match against College-. It is to be regretted that all tho seniors are not to be..relied upon, and the juniors deserve every credit for the pluck they displayed in tackling heavy odds. Waimeas have developed into a fine ■team, and will make a big bid for the senior cup. The forwards are heavy and fast, and were all in good form. Tho backs are improving, and handled tho ball very freely. Although not fully extended they had no difficulty in nuting up 42 points. McEvoy and R. Ford were perhaps the best of a good lot, and showed themselves to bo strong scoring men. 1 Among the' forwards J. Best and Hammond wore tho best of a very even lot. - If tho Nelson- got out their full team to-morrow the match against Waimea at Richmond should bo worth watch-, »ng. .-';. : * I

For the South Island Country representative team tho names of tho following players from this district have been forwarded:—o. Cederman, F. Knapp, H. McGlashen (Motueka), S. Haase (Golden Bay), J. Best,' Hammond, McEvon, N. Vercoe, and L. Taylor (Nelson). The tour will com.menco on 17th j prox.

I Tho first representative m^tch of'tho Motueka Sub-Union will be played against tho Golden Bay Sub-Union'to-morrow at Takaka. It is probable that the Nolson representatives will play the Motueka representatives at Motueka to-morrow week. Mr J. A. Wallace has presented the Motueka Sub-Union with a handsome shield for th© annual seven-a-sid© tournament.
