FOXHILL.

The annual prize giving and social gathering in connection with St. Luke's Sunday School took place on Tuesday evening last in the State schoolroom. In the unavoidable absence of the Vicar, the Rev G. H. Curie presided. In addition to the teachers and scholars there were a goodly number of the parents present. Prior to the presentation, of prizes the following programme was rendered by the children:—Opening hymn 166, sung by the congregation; the- children's part of the cantata, "Under the Palms," sung by the children; a very pretty march by sixteen girls, appropriately dressed for the occasion; hymn by, the girls (598); recitations by Elsie Eves, Mabel Johnson, Thelma Johnson (encored), Jack Hunt, and Gordon Moad. An interesting address was ■ given during the evening by tho chairman on Sunday school work, and Miss Smith gave some humorous reminiscences of her missionary work in India. Mr. Dodson Smith, the superintendent, who is' retiring from tKat position after eleven years' service, .presented his report and balance sheet. Mr. Smith urged the parents to assist the teachers in their self-denying. labours, and stated that on his return to tho district he hoped to again take up tho work. Mrs. J. W. Eves was appointed as Mr. Smith's successor. The trainingof tho children in the singing and marching was left to the capable management of Miss Palmer, assisted by Mrs. J. W. Eves. The- result was v. credit to their pains-

the* junior class wja given an. award book. -Special prizes were presented hy'JVlrs. Sydor, Misses Burge, Palmer, and Thompson, and awarded to Mrytle Syder, Gwen ' McNamara, Connie Fowler, Thomas McKenzie, Harry McKenzie, Harry McNamara, and Minnie Thomas. At this stage supper was partaken of, and after supper games were indulged in, a pleasant evening being brought to a close by all present singing the well-known hymn, "Glory to Thee my God this night," and the Doxology.
