REPRESENTATIVE SPEAKERS

A public meeting was held to-night in connection with the 'No-license convention. Speeches were delivered by the Mayor (Mr IX McLaren), the lion G. Fowlds, the Rev F. W. Chattertoii (Gisborne), 'and Mr A. S. Malcolm (M.P, for Clutha).

A resolution was passed protesting against the way newspapers published articles, really inserted as advertisements, prior to the last licensing r>oll, and asserting that the Trade or Temperance advertisements should be clearly inserted as such. It was also decided to call on all sympathisers to refuse to support candidates for Parliament who will not pledge themselves to try to remove the threefifths handicap.
