THEMUMS,

(From "The Colonist," May. 2.)

At the autumn show of the Nelson Horticultural .Society, which was opened at the Drill Shed yesterday afternoon, there is a magnificent display of chrysanthemums, the blooms being extremely woll grown and shown in first class condition. In tho open section the veteran grower, Mrs Merrick, was the only exhibitor, but her bloomc wore all magnificent specimens and would have scored in any company. She also exhibited some very fine seedlings raised b.y herself. Mr Bert Tasker, with a Lady Talbot, a beautiful pale yellow bloom, had the honour of staging the best bloom in the show. Tho same grower was also runner up with "Miss Velleruian," and tied with Mr Arthur Tasker for third place, both exhibitors staging "Mrs J. C. Neil." Mr Bert Tasker also secured the special for the best amateur bloom in tho show with "Lady Talbot." Tho decorative classes, including the decorated tables, are very good, as also are the ferns and pot plants, while as usual tho children attending tho State schools make a fine display with buttonholes, there being some hundreds of entries. There is a good display of fruit, and Mr L. G. Duncan, of Riwaka, won the championship and a special prize by Messrs E. Buxton and Co., Ltd., for his exhibit of apples. Tho varieties shown were- Cox's Orange, Ohinomuri, | Jonathan, and Stunners. Messrs F. Bensemann, E. and W. Brogemuller, A. Wilkens, C Ducker, E. H. Bisley, and E A.
